VDA 270 is the industry benchmark for evaluating the odor characteristics of interior trim materials. This standardized testing method ensures that materials meet the strict comfort and quality requirements set by leading OEMs worldwide.
The VDA 270 test is carried out under carefully controlled conditions: RoFoam samples are placed in sealed glass jars and then heated in an oven at 176°F. After heating, the jars are cooled for 10 minutes. At least three trained panelists open each jar briefly and assess the odor. The odor is rated on a six-point scale:
1. not perceptible
2. barely perceptible, not disturbing
3. clearly perceptible, not disturbing
4. disturbing
5. strongly disturbing
6. nauseating
At Schmitz Foam Supply, odor testing is a key element of our quality assurance process. Our RoFoam solutions consistently meet the highest standards for both performance and sensory comfort. Test results show that RoFoams achieve a rating of 3 or lower. Meaning any odor is at most clearly noticeable, but never disturbing.
For OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, this translates into peace of mind:
